Advocates promote computer-science education in high schools
Proponents of computer-science education are pushing for high schools to include more classes on the subject amid predictions that computing will be among the fastest-growing careers in coming years.
Many schools have dropped computer science — which differs from computer literacy in that it teaches students to make technology rather than use it — and includes elements of science, math and other disciplines.
Advocates are working to make the subject more appealing to female and minority students, who data show are significantly underrepresented in the field of study at both the high-school and college levels. Education Week (premium article access compliments of EdWeek.org)
